The core combat is very much like their other musou, but the format of the game differentiates it. It is much more dialogue heavy than most of their games, and as a result is made up of a lot more individual fights than large scale "go to A to B to C to A" kind of things you see in most musou (there is SOME of that, but not a lot and fights are usually designated to specific zones).

The other thing that makes it feel different is the Master/Servant system. You play as the Master, primarily Iori, and your servant will attack with you, and you can either command them to do specific attacks/combination attacks with you or, if you fill a meter, you get to control them (this is how you use their NPs as well). For most of the game this means Iori + Takeru but you can also get ally helper servants that you can have in secondary that you can take control of too, like Cu. The primary thing is that servants can damage magical creatures a lot more easily than Iori can early on, so you want to take advantage of them a fair bit.
