If you want a game where parrying is extremely dynamic, fleshed out, a major element, and simultaneously 100% optional and with alternatives at every moment, try ultrakill

>new blood has piles upon piles of derivative boring shit
>one day they finally acquire an original game
>made by the developer that least depends and interacts with new blood out of their entire roster
>with less marketing budget and announcements coming from the publisher than all the other games
>actually original mechanics and unique appeal instead of just nostalgia bait/generic derivative retro shooter that takes 30 years to release a bunch of generic levels and guns
>instantly 8 times more popular and selling 8 times more than the entire rest of their catalog, combined
it couldnt possibly be a better example
