Not only is comparing writing to game development an apples to oranges statement, and it's more like apples to broccoli really, writing is one of the biggest "built on the shoulders of giants" medium of human history. Not only are their writing techniques that are often used, many authors will base their writings on past writings. Nothing is new under the sun. Same with music too.
