Pointed out this has nothing to do with the chara design. It's a faithful recreation of the OG manga which, in turn, was faithful to 70/80s shoujo.

Boomer weebs need to accept that the chara design isnt the problem and putting big noses won't save anime.

It's 100% an issue of art direction and talent.
Look at Rose of Versailles. It's a weird 70s shoujo style but the 2025 version looks as bland as any random anime while the old anime is considered a masterpiece. It's the same chara design, same big noses, same stylized eyes.

Anime used to feel "special" because it was like "drawn cinema" instead of just animated cartoons but that era is over
