Alysness's Shield needs you to hold the button. Don't just tap it. Nearly the first whole second is a parry window, if not longer.
During your counterattack, immediately hold the shield button and you'll automatically parry if they attack again. If they back up instead, tap left click to pursue.
You'll need to scramble with Welkin when you're in the box because those hover axes.
