He's been careful to go the route of salary rather than outright embezzlement, so he's safe on that front.
He's also got something to show for it, even if the product is shit. He's done more than enough to reasonably claim incompetence over malice even if everything went to shit tomorrow.
Since he's not even in the big leagues of fraud yet, nobody is going to bother with this case unless he does something really stupid, like say on record that he never intends to finish it.
