As someone who started trad and went to art school, it will always hold a soft spot in my heart, I think if you stuck it out with trad and then jumped into digital for final touch ups like adding screentones you'd have the best of both worlds.

going digital has made me significantly worse at traditional but traditional skills can swap to digital at anytime.

yes screentones are the little dots, in my opinion they are a bit of a catch 22 though, it adds a whole extra layer of complexity when defining value with hatching that I personally struggle with, so I advise caution.
