I use some "broad" filters, like "Pixels" or some shit like that, and it's because I don't want any indie junk getting recommended to me.
However, the actual problem is that Steam's recommendation engine is garbage. It clearly operates based on those broad and arbitrary tags alone, which makes it practically useless.
People always praise Steam so much, yet simple stuff like discovering new games, is a total crapshoot there. Even their curator initiative some years back was halfbaked and never went anywhere.
