anime Dawn is the most popular iteration for Dawn. In the anime, kenny is portrayed incredibly dirty, its funny, really. his whole existence in the anime is to push Ash and Dawn together, I'm not joking. His flirting comes off as weird; he harasses her, treats her like an object, etc. Even when Ash lost in their final battle, Dawn chose to stay with Ash. Dawn did not even show up to say bye, lmao. I'm not kidding when I say this, they unironically gave him the cuck ending.
How do you compete with a guy Dawn traveled overseas with to cheer on?
Dawn reacts negatively toward kenny in the anime so why would a DawnFan want to "self-incert" as him.
I would say there is a big Dawn x (you) faction out there too, bigger or nearly as big as the Ash x Dawn stuff. They would probably like her to be with no one or at least self-incert into Ashes shoes, probably seeing it as the next best thing.
in summary, he's a creep, there are better ships like Ash x Dawn, even Cynthia really, and his notoriety is not well known.
