Companies in Japan do cross-promo stuff all the time. There are even entire management companies set up to help companies create franchise cafes and the like. I remember when Pikmin 4 was releasing and Family Mart had a promo for a fruit sandwich where each fruit was (allegedly) picked by Pikmin.
