Most edgy theories miss a level of interest. They're edgy for the sake of edge. The weird route has a message, likely pertaining to the lengths one will go to freedom and choice. The genocide route of undertale flips the generic rpg principles of getting stronger and critiques a player's need to see all the content, even if they don't enjoy it, just to feel they truly completed the game. Stuff like "Oh kris is chara and kills everyone" just is edgy.
