Seriously? Fucking why? They had the extra room for two more buttons to be mapped to Microsoft's standard.
Anyway, this just makes it even worse. How has nobody thought to make literally an Xbox (Or really, just about ANY modern dual-analog controller, they are all more or less the same, as long as we're talking about ones with analog shoulder buttons) controller with 6 face buttons? 8BitDo's latest dual-analog controller with TMR sticks even has a switch on the back to convert the L2 and R2 buttons between analog and digital! Just take that, add two more face buttons, and map them to acting like digital L2 and R2 buttons! Boom! You have a controller that is both suitable for any modern PC (or even console) game as well as emulating any system in the last 50 years that is nothing something resembling an Atari 5200 controller!
How has nobody done this? Every attempt I have seen fucks SOMETHING up. They only have two shoulder buttons, or none, or four shoulder buttons but the back two are not analog, or other nonsense like the mapping C and Z to L1 and R1 like you mentioned. They are literally putting more effort into fucking it up than just adding a C and Z button that maps to L2 and R2. And don't get me started on the shitty d-pads they tend to have.
