I think the lack of respect for lore/mystery is connected to the rise in autism and stay-at-home-binge-watching culture. People don't want to speculate with other fans, write their own canon, or just enjoy the mystery. They just want to hoover up as much as possible if they like a franchise/setting and like a swarm of locusts will move on if there's nothing new to consume.
And on the corporate side they'll keep milking franchises until they're dry even though from a creative POV they really should put most existing franchises on the backburner until dinosaurs or xenomorphs or jedi or whatever seem mysterious and cool again.

I mean, that's sort of the point. The protagonists are just normal blue-collar people. If you had good prospects you wouldn't be a space trucker, a colonial marine, or an indentured worker on an isolated colony. The xenomorphs wouldn't even be all that dangerous waiting on isolated rocks in space if (((Weyland-Yutani))) didn't keep sending out people to find them.
