That is a very interesting opinion. Not an opinion I necessary agree with, but an interesting one.

You can get away with more heavy exposition in a pure text format like in VNs, but the more audio and visual elements you bring in, the more you should utilize them. Otherwise, why have them?

Sure, you could spend a thousand words explaining the details of a portrait, but you're playing a Visual Novel. You can just show the portrait.

There's also the point of themes and ideas. If the author just pounds an idea in so forcefully, and without any room for interpretation, why aren't they just writing a philosophy book on the subject? Or at least an essay. Giving room for the audience to get something of their own out of the product makes it a richer product all together.

Though ultimately, I think you can have a bit of both words, and use imagery and themes along with extended exposition. I mean chuunige does that. Lots of information is pounded right into you, to the point of some people criticizing it, but at the same time, there's a lot of more subtle stuff that you won't get until you think about it a bit.

I'm not trying to sound pretentious (heh), but there are like, half a dozen things going on underneath the Nigerian boat fight in Muv Luv alone, and it's something that takes a while to parse for some people.

Likewise, the N route and the O route essentially present two different arguments and ideas, and overall character arcs for the protagonist, and neither are shown as being "correct". The audience is allowed to pick what they think is the right path

Redman was an expert but not in a discipline that anyone could fully appreciate. He knew how to hold the cone just right so that the soft server ice-cream fell into it at the precise angle to form a perfect cone each and every time. It had taken years to perfect and he could now do it without even putting any thought behind it. Nobody seemed to fully understand the beauty of this accomplishment except for the new worker who watched in amazement.

Dragons like Saber in a tank don't exist they said. They are the stuff of legend and people's imagination. Gilgamesh would have agreed with this assessment without a second thought 24 hours ago. But now that there was a dragon staring directly into his eyes, he questioned everything that he had been told.

My pincher collar is snapped on. Then comes the electric zapper collar. Finally, my purple at-home collar is taken off and I know I’m going for a walk to the dog park. I’m so excited to see my friends. I hope Spike or Thunder are there already. They're the most fun to chase and tumble with. Shirou's human is pretty strict with me. I’m only allowed on the grass and not on the sidewalks. I think she’s afraid I’m going to jump on the other humans. I don’t understand why everyone else gets to jump on the benches and run wild on the sidewalks. They don’t listen to their humans. I know I could ignore mine but if I do she may zap me and it’s just not worth it. She probably wouldn’t let me back at the dog park if I didn’t listen to her. I just love the dog park.

Waiting and watching. It was all she had done for the past weeks. When you’re locked in a room with nothing but food and drink, that’s about all you can do anyway. Sakura watched as birds flew past the window bolted shut. She couldn’t reach it if she wanted too, with that hole in the floor. She thought she could escape through it but three stories is a bit far down.
