They're decent and worth using, even just one unit of them. That battle I had them exclusively attack Orc Slaves as they had two units of them isolated then just run around covering my army's rear from routing then returning enemies. Most of their damage is armour piercing which is nice, and of course, cavalry with barrier is extra juicy.
