Okay, so i am done with writing my new adult fantasy novel. now I have to query. All the online guides to query letters say I should Include a section that goes "If you liked THAT novel, youll really like THIS novel." Problem is just: I dont know what my book reads like.
I grew up on my parents' 70s and 80s fantasy novels, like stuff from Terry Brooks, Anne McCaffrey and Alan Dean Foster. Tolkien and Lewis were also a part. I also read a lot of Lovecraft and R.E. Howard, but I still dont think I write like them.
It is a lot more low-fantasy, less of that "we have to save the world from the dark lord" and more of that "we have to survive another day". It isnt necessarily bleak, more light-in-the-darkness stuff, but still brutal, downbeat and full of horror elements.
The target audience would be 18-30 year old men.
Can you tell me what authors are like that so I can I lie a bit on my query letter?
