Things are only made WORSE if you need to use the Upscalers, such as DLSS, FSR or XeSS, that essentially render the image at LOWER resolution, and then use various filters to scale it up to your screen res. It's meant to make things look less smudgy than the traditional bilinear upscaling, but it also introduces many new artifacts.
tl;dr: nu-devs cannot into 8-bit alpha masks and smooth shading that was already common stuff during the PS2 era.

Exp33 is literally an indie game that is FAR better optimized than the 80 dollar AAA shit, that had 80+ million dollar budget, and used the same engine.
It also does not use Pajeet asset store slop.
