Yes it's pretty cool, as is the dialogue to make the choice. Years ago, when it first came out, I initially chose Nurgle as the dialogue gave a pretty good argument. But Thorgar looked so gross as Nurgle I shortly switched.

Also, something I only found out years later, each sub faction has unit bonuses.

For example, Khorne units all have 10% higher chance to hit a target which is insane. All the bonuses can be viewed top left in the book icon when making your army in skirmish mode.
