Shadows are just a darkened version of the local color color accompanied by a change in temperature (Mostly occurs during light fall off.) Shadows are the absence of light, which is color. Without the presence of reflected or fill light, shadows are black. Local color doesn't really exist as it's entirely around the context of how strong the light is, but a good estimate of an objects local color is in the halftones. Halftones also tend to be the most colorful as they are not too dark or under the influence of as much light. As for these spheres you have here, you can play around with the colors a lot since they are so desaturated. Shading is the modelling of the form and is not as concerned with color so much as it is value. Your values are so light that the range you have to work with for halftones is very limited. Pumping up the shadows is a way to give you more options in the lights, which means more colors are available there! Notice how pic related doesn't feel very 3d, but it's full of color in spite of the low saturation? It's all about striking a balance and making it work for what you have in mind for the piece your working on.

Shadows are less saturated due to the fact that the color darkens, thus diminishing chroma.

Anyway, color has a lot of leeway when it comes to things looking good. All you've done here is make the shadows very light for both and maybe have a bit too much grey in the 3rd. So long as your values are good and you play around with the colors, you should be fine.
