Colas are carbonated by infusion of carbon dioxide in a caffeinated drink flavored with oils of citrus and spice.

Coca-Cola was the first and was based on coca wine. It contained coca leaf extract as both a flavoring and a source of cocaine and caffeine extracted from cola nuts, hence the name Coca-Cola.

The original recipe contained fresh lime juice, and oils of orange, bitter orange, lemon, coriander, and cardamom, as well as vanilla extract. The modern recipe replaces fresh lime juice with lime oil, and the cocaine is extracted before the coca leaf is added, but yes, it still to this day uses coca leaf as a flavoring.

Coke never contained cinnamon oil, but Pepsi and RC Cola do. Pepsi also doesn't use coca leaf, and uses nutmeg oil instead of cardamom oil. The other ingredient's are the same.

Root beer predates cola. It is now made with infusion of cardon dioxide but originally it was allowed to naturally ferment to develop carbonation (like beer) and was mildly alcoholic. The main flavorings are sassafras root and sarsaparilla, but the sassafras flavor is now artificial as real sassafras was found to be carcinogenic (which is retarded, as the study done on it showed you'd have to drink around 100 liters of root beer a day to have an increased cancer risk).
