Look anon I get your misunderstanding but I'm not saying we should settle for the bare minimum, what pisses me off is this demographic of people who believe they need to force FiM into something it isn't for the sake of making it less embarrassing to watch.
I'm not saying MLP can't have serious themes either, because early FiM did, but making moral lessons without making it corny or preachy is a task only the best of writers can make, and in the end, when you really look at it, the people who want to make FiM something it isn't force darker themes for the sake of it being darker, not because they genuinely think it fits the overarching theme.
