My thoughts as someone who's never played the original but am halfway through the remake:
Has the best atmosphere I've ever seen in a horror game. Kind of reminds me of Alan Wake on the 360 and the only game that did it better was Resident 7 at least until he left the house. Mixed feeling on the lack of "resources" and enemy variety, but in a way its simplicity works. I think the biggest issue with Resident Evil games is they always have this power scaling that sacrifices the horror for rule of cool by the halfway point. This game is more powerless so seeing the same enemies still holds stress because you can't just gun all of them down.
