>SUCCESS!
You take out your map from your bag.
"Hold on, let's think a little bit." You say, the two mares looking intrigued. "Maybe there's a better approach that just following the current."
Again, you're no expert in terrain, but perhaps there's still something rather simple that hopefully will help you find the ring faster. For example…
"There's a larger body of water further down the river." You tell your companions. "If the ring has been carried further than where we already stand, there's a good chance that it stopped there where there's some still water. I say we should go check that place in priority."
As you continue your search with a clearer objective, you arrive near what looks like a tiny patch of swamp land, hoping than the slower current could have left the ring around here. The first thing you notice however is somepony apparently swimming there. As you stealthily come closer, you realize it is not a pony that you just found.
"Look at that!" Board whispers, while you're all crouched among the reeds. "It's a Kelpie. And she has the ring! A good thing we hurried here." She gives you a friendly bump on the leg. "We could have missed her."
"Mmh… Kelpies can use magic and control water." Blueberry seems a bit scared of the aquatic mare. "I'm not sure it's a good idea to fight her in a place like this…"
>What do?
>A: Attempt to fight the Kelpie regardless.
>DC 80
>+60 xp on success
>B: Distract the Kelpie with your music while Blueberry will stealthily levitate the ring away from her.
>DC 60
>Kelpie! The name of this character with " ! " indicates that that growing the Kelpie at this precise moment will trigger a circumstance bonus and make the challenge significantly easier.
>C: Hail the Kelpie and calmly explain the situation to her. Would she accept to give the ring back?
>DC 70
>Coin reward -80 on failure rather than failing the quest
