Finland had Swedish m/96 rifles and m/94 carbines already in inventory before the Winter War broke out, mostly as a result of arms smuggled in during the Finnish Civil War. Some m/94 carbines (and more m/96 rifles) came to Finland with the Swedish volunteer regiment in 1940 and were left behind.
