On the Nepalese border of the Himalayas there are lots of isolated towns with no roads. This picture here is one of the biggest, but it’s not uncommon to find just a shack or two all by itself off the beaten “tourist” path. You wouldn’t be allowed to chop down wood and stuff for housing as they are strict about outsiders, but if you really wanted to go that route you should move to the Namche bazaar, donate money and be a member of the community, and then try and get the knowledge needed to farm and raise yaks and whatnot.
