You'd think that would be the case, WoTC is no stranger to making spinoff card games based off existing IPs. There was even a Codename: KND TCG made at one point, that funnily enough had it's mechanics recycled into one of the worst received Magic sets of all time.

I guess Hasbro thought it'd be easier to simply bulldoze their existing game rather than make a new one from scratch.
