There's ways to do coomer or otherwise more liberty take designs while still having it tie into actual Mesoamerican motifs and iconograph though: See >716294540: that doesn't show skin but it does show how even designs with cargo pants and gatling guns can still do interesting stuff thematically that ties into actual Mesoamerican symbolism. Tlalocmon from Digimon is another example (docs DOT google DOT com slash document SLASH d SLASH 1Efs7Fpw3AusYTV3DyrVSaGmB10V8NqFy7ZHZxzDw7ww), or Charles Rickett's designs from the never-finished play he worked on, etc. You just need to be creative and do your research

The black color is body paint, black body paint was worn by priests and Quetzalcoatl was also in turn associated with priesthood due to his ties to learning and intellectualism
But yes, the idea of Quetzalcoatl being white skinned is nonsense, nor was Cortes ever mistaken for Quetzalcoatl, at least not by Moctezuma II, who explicitly says that he, like Cortes is merely human to assuage rumors Cortes heard that Moctezuma was a god or sorcerer. That being said there really are depictions of Quetzalcoatl with blond hair and facial hair (but NONE with white skin), but that's because A: golden colors was just associated with divinity in general and the Aztec had golden hair dyes, and B: the Mesoamericans just, could grow facial hair: Moctezuma II had a beard and mustache, for example
I never finished the dump but see: https://desuarchive.org/his/thread/17404007/#17407659
