It is partially that, because he obviously expects the reader to take in a lot of information from just Asa's expressions. He spent such a long time on Asa early on because he wanted to establish her personality and ways of reacting to the reader, so that they'd be able to make "reads" on her later on in the series when she's no longer receiving such a heavy focus.
The problem is that's a lot easier to do in a movie than a manga format, especially when his art has suffered quite a bit from the early stages.
She has a lot of established "cues" for what she's feeling, and what her actual intentions are behind the words, and Yoru is to some degree a tool she uses to impose her will at times, but it's not really subject of debate that people are interested in.
