They're normies with the same obsession normies used to had for celebrities, but they identify as nerds because of the old "we're all outsiders so you can't judge anyone no matter how toxic" nerd community trope, so they get very autistic about VAs. This is also why Kate threw someone who could not do a female voice into a female lead role, because it would give her friend celebrity status and that celebity of role mattered more than doing a good job.
