However, your post implies that endgame raiding is an end goal that most of the community has to strive for, when this isn't the case at all. The majority of the player base don't even do endgame raiding, especially at the highest end (ultimate), and the normal modes/dungeons/etc. don't really push you towards that supposed "end goal" of raiding either. Like, in other games you would run dungeons so you could get gear to let you run normal raids so you could get gear to let you into EX so you could get gear to let you into savage. It's a gross progression system, and I don't want it in our game, but I'm just trying to illustrate a point. In XIV, rather than have players work up towards that goal, when savage drops most people just buy crafted, pentameld it, and then hop into savage right out the gate. The gear they get from it is largely useless outside of that one thing, since everything else syncs it down or -- at best -- lets them maybe skip a mechanic in some normal mode raid or something.
Even glamfarming or house decorating feels like a more "end goal" to me than savage raiding does, because I feel like I have to actively work to gain access to those things. Raiding savage in XIV just doesn't feel that way to me at all, and I struggle to see how the game would die if it vanished. The devs are currently appealing to raiders in DT, and the numbers totally blow because most people just don't care about staying subbed to log in on Tuesday and reclear the same 4 fights.
