I think the loneliness might affect you worse if you're an extrovert that just happens to have no one to give you fulfillment. It's weird but a lot of autists aren't introverted, they just get punched in the face by reality any time they try befriending people and become conditioned to avoid bothering strangers as a result.
That said, I didn't feel as bad when I was younger because I figured I had time left and I was surrounded by other young men in the same predicament online to share in our misery. Once you're older the isolation and feeling of "it's so fucking over" really kicks in. Especially as your coworkers start getting married and starting families and you're still at the stage of trying to make a friend, let alone ever getting a gf.
