Doomscrolling is when the algorithm on a social media site manages to synch up with you perfectly.

It consists of scrolling an automatic feed, consuming posts/videos with one's mood oscillating between at a moderately negative state and a slightly positive state, which causes general distress overall.

The reason this occurs is because the algorithms track what you interact with in a positive and negative sense. So it will show you a few things that you get enjoyment out of (ie cute cat video, kawaii anime art, vtuber funny post) and then several things that get you upset, angry, heated or just worked up in a tribal mentality (a lot of this category is politics but just about any hot take or bait post, even things you agree with so it tempts you to see the people in the replies who disagree.)

The balance is set up so that it shows you just enough positive content that you keep scrolling like a gambler in the hopes of more to give you dopamine and lift your mood to a satisfactory level, but it is carefully giving you enough negative shit that your mood keeps dropping down below neutral. The purpose of this is that every certain number of posts you will be fed sponsored content, which the advertisers pay the website for.

If you decide that you must "use" twitter or tiktok or youtube shorts or whatever else pops up for your art sharing and getting an audience, you should not actually browse it yourself or interact outside of people who talk to your first. Follow no one, post your shit only and reply to people who comment.
