"chinese" fortifications just werent good. They were giant dirt walls with a layer of bricks on one side. You dont have to be a genious to break trough those. European ones were layered and made out of mason work. Nearly every village had a castle in walking distance and every castle had a multitude of sourrounding ones just around the corner. In germany you have an area with three castles in shooting distance of each other while you have a few more in viewing distance. You dont have that in china.
