Guess he started feeling suicidal and viewing his eyehack as a curse that needs to be removed from the world (even though he had just saved the world from turning into Charles' vision with said power? - DON'T QUESTION IT, I know). But it just doesn't make sense for a character like him (a speedrunner and gambler at heart, not to mention a genius strategist) AND in a setting like CG (where everybody in power is genocide-happy, where there might be plenty of Geass users and immortals still around to stir up shit) to just quit your watch and hope for the best, with nothing to back up your future forecast.
