Finding out it was her and not Koji did change some things about ShB retroactively though.
For example, when we believed Koji did it the asexual nature of the fey was a genuine touch of soul.
After finding out Kate did it people began to believe it was some culture war bullshit to make people more ok with they/thems.
Then Kate confirmed that notion so now we know that the story was changed explicitly for culture war bullshit so the previous praise is moot.

So yes, people once praised Kate's work before they knew it was Kate's because we believed the work was genuine rather than political.
