Spider-Man was never going to be as good. Insomniac never made a game more than an 8/10 and the notes given from Snoy are useless.
These are absolutely based games, and you can tell they're inspired by Metroid and Zelda rather than AAA slop (prior to Arkham Knight at least). A mad shame what happened to Rocksteady afterwards but it was already going wrong around Arkham Knight as they made policy changes in the company that prevented Paul Dini from reprising his writer-credit, and the lead designer of the first 2 games got Amy Hennig'd and ended up working on story and bosses for Halo Infinite instead. You'll notice Halo Infinite does the same thing as Joker/Hugo/Scarecrow with "bosses" talking down to the player as you keep playing. It also has very 1-on-1 Boss encounters and Zelda-like "puzzle solved" sounds.
Paul Crocker is the true sauce behind these games, and his absence is felt in Knight with the complete lack of boss battles and misplaced emphasis on the car.
