you gotta relax man. it's a cute bittersweet whirlwind friend/romance story that plays with the "protagonist always wins" element of video games, without getting super dark... because it's literally a pokemon game

although being able to easily spin the story in an insane worst faith interpretation like this is definitely part of its appeal... really ripe for this type of thing

that's why a lot of people like him and his story i think. versatility!
