Standards have drastically shifted, and so have people's priorities. If you compare Wind Waker to other standard 3D Zeldas, it honestly sits in the lower end, but people are willing to praise it so much more now just because it's not BotW or TotK.

Also the usual, people who grew up with the Gamecube are at the age where they're the loudest opinions online now. You can currently see this with just about any fandom of any series that had a game on the Gamecube.
