Just had an argument with my dad about buying a manual car. I'm from the south and will be temporarily moving to the Midwest where there will be a lot of snow. I've got a great reliable car now, but after working a week of my new job, I've learned that I will likely need a 4x4 of some kind (not due to the snow, but rather mud and other obstacles off-road). I am not very good at driving stick, but I like cars and have wanted a manual car for a while. My dad got super pissed after hearing this and insists I need an automatic and that I should just put off a manual vehicle for some kind of project car 10+ years down the road. Obviously I understand his concerns, and somewhat agree. An automatic would be easier and likely better in many situations. That being said, I will be buying the car myself, and it's up to me whether or not I listen to him. How correct is he /o/? Is driving manual in the snow really that bad? Should I just suck it up and get an auto?
