Most people have functioning rule of law at least in their own states, and so long as that continues there won't be civil war even if most Americans detest the Federal government. In which case the Federal government simply recedes as states rise, but even then only a handful of states actually matter due to geography. California is the biggest geographically and Illinois is the biggest industrially. Both states would go hard left, electing actual Socialists, and then simply use their industrial products to force the other 48 states into total submission. Largely they'd succeed, although Illinois would have to negotiate with Canada & New York for the St. Lawrence Seaway and fight Texas for the Mississippi. Most people caught between these bigger states will be run over uselessly.

Using transportation as an example, only big liberal leftist states have a plan if the gas runs out. California is planning an all-electric rail network by 2050, Illinois is 20% electric and New York 60% electric. These are urban centers that can handle gas becoming unavailable to the public. If gas hits $10/gal or simply doesn't exist because the oil pipelines exploded, states like Arkansas, Mississippi, Iowa and Idaho can either chose to sell themselves to a larger leftist state or die.

All wars are fuel wars. No fuel no war. This is central to Russia's strategy in Ukraine and is how all advanced economies work.
