Anybody got any recommendations for what I call "Bullshit Boardgames"?
A Bullshit Boardgame is a game that has an illusion of depth, character choices, strategy, but when you actually play the game it becomes apparent that it really doesn't. It's all random bullshit that was deceived you into thinking it wasn't random bullshit. The kind of game that makes autistic mother fuckers screech that the lack of luck mitigation makes it unplayable.
Note, that once you recognize a Bullshit Boardgame is indeed a Bullshit Boardgame and you accept your just in for the ride and the end state is trivial, it's the dumb fuckery that you run into along the way that makes it fun.
A prime example would be DungeonQuest. Odds are good every cocksucker at the table is gonna die through a bad singular dice roll or card flip, but since everyone knows that going in, it's more a comedy playing out as heroes walk into a constantly shifting meat grinder. Nobody gives a shit who "played better" or "won".
A recent example was Spire's End where it's a highly random CYOA game and every action is determined by die rolls, so misses are abound and actions cost health to pull off so you frequently die just trying to hit a bitch. The result is you wind up playing as most inept mother fuckers on the planet and it's glorious when played with that in mind.
