There are 66 demoday submissions as I am writing this, and it will only grow, last demoday had more. If you give each just 30 minutes, you do the math how long it takes to give valuable feedback. It's a lot of work.
If I see the demo of some faggot I already know, I am going to play it, because in the last two months I've been seeing screenshots, gifs, videos, soundbites, and interpretative dance about it. It makes me curious what kind of game it turned out to be. After DD ends, I will see more of this stuff about it as well, the discussion will continue, and we might even talk about how Silent Hill captured horror and later entries failed to grasp it.
If I see the demo of someone I don't know, I will likely have nothing to go by, but the screenshots, title, and cover art. Which might be shit compared to the game. It is more likely that you will be picked by the randomizer, and I play your demo, instead of me picking it for its merits.
That's what been memed into the "inner circle". There is some mad schizo who claims that this is "nepotism", and "cheating" like there is an award being handed out, and a shadow cabal picks who it goes to. So there, you decide whether there is an inner circle or not.
