So... South Africa. I went for a year as part of a university exchange program thinking it was gonna be cool and exotic. Classes were offered in both Afrikaans and English, so sizeable white population in this area. Maybe like 70% white I'd say. Met some wonderful ((white)) families during the holidays so I think I got a good feel of old and young. Stellenbosch as a whole is pretty wealthy. Think stereotypical wealthy white SA stuff. Paragliding, wineries, bungee jumping, that kind of shit.
Nobody will ever say it, but Apartheid is ingrained in people there. Maybe slightly less racist with the college age group, but people stick to what they know. SA white girls were really interested in this doughy American, so I suspect they're trying to get out.. Unrelated but the women all around are not very attractive. I also suspect there is something wrong with the gene pool among white people here. Strange accents.
Like here in the US, people will claim a dangerous area is safe by saying you just have to be vigilant, but reality is, one mugging changes everything. Waling traffic thins out by about 5pm and you don't wanna be out when dark in CT. There is an increasing white resentment and many multi-generational Afrikaners are choosing to leave, because the reality is, they have the future of their kids to think about. Old folks don't speak fondly of apartheid, but they do speak on when everything actually worked. Infrastructure is failing, rolling blackouts are becoming frequent. Blacks and coloreds vote in garbage politicians who rob the people blind. There's just something in the air like the place is gonna implode.
Beautiful but limited geography. Once you've seen Cape of Good Hope and Table Mountain, you've basically seen all CT has to offer. Has some mountains but that's about all there is to see. Beaches are pretty mid, maybe even kinda bad.
I went in 2018, who the hell knows how it is now, I can't imagine it's better.
