I agree that Oblivion's fast travel is bad. However, fast travel itself isn't inherently bad. I would argue diagetic fast travel like in Morrowind is good because it offers utility to the player at an in-game cost and helps to flesh out the world.
Some of my most used mods for Skyrim were ones that add more in-game fast travel options, like extra carriages and boats, or teleporter shrines.
