>Nobody gives a fuck about comic books
If you're honestly draining money on a bunch of MCU/DCEU films despite having zero appreciation for the source material, that's unbelievably sad. Why waste your time on something when you have passion for the deeper context?
>serious film for adults
You fucks say this shit, and then watch shit like Jurassic Park Dominion, Fast X Furious, and Batman vs Superman. What's a mature, low-budget character drama you've actually watched? Moonlight? Manchester by the Sea? Anatomy of a Fall? Convince me you're not just a sophomoric action junkie.
>[Donner] envisioned Superman as being Jesus Christ but in a less direct way.
Yeah, Donner did a better job with that interpretation because he's not a hack who overplays his hand. It's not the only viable portrayal and in fact the original first-edition Superman was a Moses allegory. Gunn did something else that's reminiscent of the silver age comics and animated shows/movies that most of the American audience grew up with.
>'that's childish nostalgia'
Superman is the oldest and most iconic superhero. If there is ever a time to indulge in those themes and emotions it is with this character. If you count The Incredibles as a superhero movie, it has the same essence and it's easily one of the best superhero and animated movies ever made.
