Your barrel is oversized to take the chrome, therefor if all your chrome left the server you would be left with an unusable barrel.
Chrome lining is going to make more of a difference than the CHF vs Button/Broach/ECM will. But CHF is providing a a very consistent, work hardened and mechanically stronger basis for the chrome to adhere to which is going to increase the life of the chrome. The M4 Forged barrel life study supports adding ~25% more life to the system when combined with a better alloy. Looking at the averaged groups we are seeing 31% better performance between standard 4150 CMV button vs CHF. CHF barrels exhibited a distinctly different wear behavior when abused as well.
