Your barrel is oversized to take the chrome, therefor if all your chrome left the server you would be left with an unusable barrel.
Chrome lining is going to make more of a difference than the CHF vs Button/Broach/ECM will. But CHF is providing a a very consistent, work hardened and mechanically stronger basis for the chrome to adhere to which is going to increase the life of the chrome. The M4 Forged barrel life study supports adding ~25% more life to the system when combined with a better alloy. Looking at the averaged groups we are seeing 31% better performance between standard 4150 CMV button vs CHF. CHF barrels exhibited a distinctly different wear behavior when abused as well.

Three concerns: another potential point of failure if that shake awake stops working and kills the whole thing. Sometimes during shock you can trigger the tube to shut off and its fixed with a restart of the unit itself. Can happen if your near a lot of overpressure from explosives/shotguns ime. In your case is it possible that you didnt have the cap fully threaded on and it was bouncing in there slightly during movement?
Generally a short will make itself more apparent when the unit is cold, wet or thrown around. Go throw it in your freezer and see if you can repeat the failure. If that doesnt work, id probably chock it up to batteries.

Freezer test will also tell you if you need a purge lmao

In terms of the actual magnification of the image it’s very hard to tell.
But that’s magnification in isolation.
When I compare my G33 to my elcan there is almost no difference but that’s probably largely due to the fact they both have very similar FOV.
I’m sure if I took a 4x magnifier and compared it again to an elcan or acog the decrease in FOV would be more apparent because that’s just how magnifiers work yo.
The point I’m probably doing a poor job of trying to make is that you can’t just look at one factor in isolation.
Magnification matters but so does eyebox, eye relief, field of view, reticle, and weight, and how those variables all work together is what matters most.
For example a G45 gets you noticeably more magnification but drastically decreased usability due to how sensitive the eyebox is, how reduced the FOV is, and how much the dot becomes distorted or at least how that distortion becomes more apparent due to it being magnified 5x.

Split times aren’t a great assessment tool for 1x performance. It’s just how fast you can pull the trigger on one target (probably at like 7 yards).
A better way is to do target transitions.
You don’t even need to go to the range just get some office tape and color like a 1 inch or so piece with a sharpie. Put up like 3 of those and space them out a decent amount, at different heights.
Note the difference between an LPVO on 1x and a red dot.
Sure you can make it work but I think the difference is pretty noticeable in favor of the dot.

I tried the new IRAY flip to side mount and am going back to the regular non-flip mount. Sucks to have to change mount heights back to 1.7 again and re-zero.

The iray flip to side does not have anything snapping or latching it closed like the wilcox or even an eotech magnifier mount, so any little bump will knock it a few degrees of rotation. I am aware you can tighten the hinge, but if you can move it by hand, it can also be bumped a few degrees off. This would be fine hunting from a tripod or something, but if you were moving around with it, you would want to check by hand that the optic is fully pushed down before shooting. Or rig up some shock cord to keep it pulled down or something like this.

It works. I'd prefer a 2 MOA dot instead of 4, it's mostly the same with aligmatism anyway. Lowest setting works with NV though I haven't tried it. Lens is pretty clear with very little tint.
