Honestly anons, this isn’t just regular creative burnout or getting old. These are legitimate clinical depression flags and it’s genuinely concerning. ZUN gave us this incredible world and characters we all love, and now he’s trapped watching it become bigger than he ever wanted while feeling dead inside about it.
Compare this to early ZUN interviews where he’d get excited talking about Marisa’s personality or some random spell card concept. Now it’s just “I have to make another one” with zero passion. The guy who created the concept of “everyone in Gensokyo can be happy” doesn’t seem to believe happiness exists for himself anymore.
This is a man who genuinely sounds like he’s given up on finding joy in anything. The series that brought millions of people happiness is now just an obligation he can’t escape from.
Maybe I’m reading too much into drunk rambling, but these quotes hit different. ZUN deserves better than feeling trapped by his own creation. Gensokyo should be a place of wonder, not a shackle.
