The way vampires work, they are only allowed the bare minimun to blend into humans and charm them into sucking their blood or turning them into thralls/ghouls/whatever. If they didn't have the bare minimun of bodily functions, they would have a harder time hunting humans down, or not even feel thirst for blood. Now, from acknowledging that vampires can eat and taste, to have children is a planetary level step. Call it a natural adaptation to make survival better, as far as supernatural curses go.
