I think pseudo-mythological is the best lens to view aos through. Yknow that "golden age back in the day" when odin and athena and whatever meddled in the affair of mortals, that sirta feel. I know gw peddled it as a replacement for fantasy but that's just not what it is, and if you look at it from that pov you're setting yourself up for dissapointment eventually. It's just a fundamentally different *type* of world/setting.
Back to the norse comparison, I think there's actually a fair bit to it. Besides the mortal realms = yggdrasil and the nine worlds, there's also the figure of sigmar going from a hammer-wielding, hotheaded god of war (thor), to a more wise, royal, patriarchal figure (odin). He's even got a spear now! Then there's him collecting great dying warriors (stormcast/einherjar) for a final confrontation against the forces of evil.
I imagine the high fantasy of age of sigmar to be quite similar to the mythological magitech of the god of war franchise, if you've ever played it. Picrel.
